Our parks and open spaces are important places to be protected, cherished and enhanced.
They take great effort – and money – to maintain, but give back so much to our communities.
They are vital to our physical and mental health, the quality of our environment
and provide valuable habitat for wildlife. We have an abundance of parks and open
spaces in our area covering over 24 square kilometres on 632 individual sites.
The parks which are most valued by our local communities are:
Bonnybridge, Banknock and Denny
Bo'ness
Braes and the Rural South
Falkirk and Grangemouth
Larbert, Stenhousemuir and the Rural North
Further details about the parks and open spaces which we manage can be found on
our
parks and countryside estates pages.
Our long term strategy for the improvement of our parks and open spaces is set out
within our Open Space Strategy.
Crucial to our long-term efforts to improve these parks will be the involvement
of
local communities. Many have already established "Friends of" groups to support
local parks. You can find out more about community led park and open space improvement
projects in our area on the MyPark Scotland website. If you are interested
in helping to improve your local park by joining an existing Friends group, or forming
a new one, then please contact us.
Playspaces
There are 178 open spaces containing a playspace across the Council area and we
are
responsible for the majority of them. We aim to ensure that every household is within an
800m walk of an open space containing a playspace and that, where appropriate, those
playspaces should contain equipment to serve 3 different age groups: toddlers,
juniors and teens.
