Falkirk Council are providing a Property Flood Resilience (PFR) Subsidy Scheme. The products that will be provided are:

  • Filled and Unfilled Sandbags
  • Hydrosacks
  • Puddle Pumps
  • Toilet Bungs
  • Flood Defence Barriers
  • Anti-Flood Airbricks
  • Weephole Covers

The scheme will allow local people, in areas of risk from any type of flooding, to purchase these products with Falkirk Council providing a subsidy of 30% towards the total cost. Falkirk Council will purchase selected products at cost price and make them available with an additional subsidy against each product.

A member of Falkirk Council's Flooding Team will attend each house that has sent in an application form in order to recommend products to match each individual situation, to ensure that the most suitable products are chosen. Falkirk Council can only recommend products, the final decision is up to the homeowner as they are paying for the bulk of the products overall cost. The homeowner will still be referred to The Scottish Flood Forum for additional advice.

It will be the responsibility of the homeowner to maintain these products, Falkirk Council are not liable to any maintenance costs after the initial purchase of the product. There will be a Homeowner Agreement which the homeowner will need to sign as a guarantee to ensure the homeowner is aware of the responsibilities of Falkirk Council as well as themselves.

This process will begin with an application form being available on the Falkirk Council website that homeowners are able to fill out and send over to Falkirk Councils Flooding Team to review. This will ensure that the needs of the homeowner are known before recommending a property flood protection product. This will ensure the most suitable products are recommended depending on the type of flooding, ability of the homeowner, etc.

The scheme will work on a first come first served basis, with the scheme being valid until the budget Is used for each year. We will provide a maximum subsidy of XXX for a single residential property or XXX for any single business of products/services. The PFR Subsidy scheme is hoped to provide a level of initial flood resilience and comfort, in advance of more significant interventions.
