It is the head teacher's decision whether or not to allow prescribed medicines into the school, but schools are generally happy to allow this.

If a child has to take medication prescribed by a doctor or dentist during the school day, parents must complete a MED 1 form or a MED 4 form:

MED 1 - Allow school staff to administer medication
MED 4 - Request for pupil to carry their medication

The MED 1 form allows school staff to administer medication to the child. Parents must deliver the medication to the school.

The MED 4 form allows pupils to carry and take their medication themselves, such as inhalers.

Prescribed medicines should be clearly marked with your child's name, the date prescribed, how often it has to be taken and for how long.

For more information, please speak to your child's head teacher or pastoral support teacher.
