Falkirk Council’s roads teams have been battling heavy snow overnight to support the NHS and our emergency services.

Working long hours in treacherous conditions, gritters collectively treated hundreds of miles of priority routes, ensuring all stay open.

NHS support

Routes to the Falkirk area’s coronavirus vaccination centres have been a priority for the gritter teams, as have roads leading to emergency services stations, medical centres and the Royal Forth Valley Hospital.

With more snow expected through today (Tuesday 9 February), all available Roads workers have been deployed and are working continuously to keep main roads open and minimise impact on the NHS and emergency services.

Given restrictions in place, advice from Police Scotland is to travel by vehicle only if safe to do so - and adhering to current coronavirus restrictions. Falkirk Council's Roads team provide updates through their dedicated Twitter feed.

Bins

The adverse weather conditions mean bin collections are suspended for the time being, and will start again when safe to do so.

Affected residents are advised to leave bins and boxes out for collection. Service is intended between Wednesday 10 and Friday 12 February.

Today’s scheduled bulky uplifts will now take place over the course of the week.
